How ZioTimes decides what to publish and how we hold ourselves to it.
1. Our standard
Every story published on ZioTimes — whether written by our newsroom or submitted through the Digital Journalist Program — goes through the same human editorial review before it goes live. No story skips review, paid submission or not.
2. Sourcing
We report from primary sources wherever possible — official statements, documents, direct reporting — and identify sources unless there's a real reason not to (for example, protecting someone from retaliation), in which case we say so in the story rather than pretending the sourcing is stronger than it is.
3. Digital Journalist submissions
Citizen-submitted stories go through the same review as staff-written ones: our editorial team checks the submitted location and media against the claimed story before approving publication. A published Citizen Journalist byline means the story has cleared that review — see the "Verified by our editorial team" indicator on every contributor byline.
4. Separating news from opinion
Stories are labeled "Analysis" or "Opinion" when they contain the author's interpretation or argument rather than straight reporting. Unlabeled stories are reported news.
5. Corrections
See our separate Corrections Policy.
6. Advertising and sponsored content
Sponsored or branded content is always clearly labeled as such and never presented as independent reporting.
7. Independence
ZioTimes' editorial decisions are made by our editorial team, not by advertisers, the Digital Journalist Program's paying subscribers, or any outside party.
